It is super easy to set up your own shop at Etsy and a great place to start selling products. If you would like to know more about starting your own Etsy shop here is another link by Studio Jewel. Crochet Scarf

Knitted-2010-10-25-19-52.jpg
This is my chunky scarf with three brass buttons. I do not crochet a lot but when I do, I like it to be thick, warm and Chunky! I use two pieces of yarn at the same time and I used the half double crochet.

One Bag, One Afternoon!

shoulder-2010-10-24-19-19.jpg
I fell in love with the orange and blue corduroy fabrics I used on my daughter’s coat. So I wanted to make something from the scraps. Sometimes fabrics can inspire you to create something new! In one short afternoon I made this cute hand bag! I used the corduroy along the bottom and for the single strap across the top.

The slip pockets have elastic along the top to cling to the lining. I like the size and shape.

Dear My Kids Stylish Coat ePattern, Part 2

PinnedPeterPancollarjacket-2010-10-20-12-49.jpg
I am making two Dear My Kids, Stylish Coats at the same time, so I cut everything out and pinned whatever I could together.
This technique is great for making a lot of the same thing, mass producing.
The sleeves, collar, back panels and the front pieces to the top yolk pieces were all pinned together to sew all at once.
This cut my time in half and gave me the ability to sit and sew for a longer period of time. (Also I did not have to change the bobbin thread as often.)
If you pin everything before you start to sew read over the instructions first! Do not pin any pieces that have to be sewn first together.
For instance, I did not pin the yolk to the back panels because the two back panels have to be sewn together first.
PeterPanLining-2010-10-20-12-49.jpg
Next, I attached the back yolks to the sewn back panels, back panels to front panels and the sleeves to the vest like coat pieces.
That gave me 2 outer shells, 2 linings and the collars. This pattern is awesome and if you have not gotten it you should! These are adorable coats! If you have boys it is very versatile and can be adapted into a boyish style. I can’t wait to show you more! Remember the monthly Sew Spoiled giveaway will is next week so keep checking back!
Happy Sewing!

New iPhone Cover Fabric!

The fabric on my iPhone cover started to peel off. So I took the old fabric off and and that gave me an idea!
Why not Mod Podge new fabric over the cover?
iPhonecover-2010-10-19-22-19.jpg
I gentle placed the sticky old fabric on top of my new fabric as a template. I cut out the new the fabric.

iPhonecover2-2010-10-19-22-19.jpg
Now, I am ready to Mod Podge but I am out! Drat! I will have to finish this later. Do you think this will work? Is Mod Podge the best adhesive to use? Post a comment and let me know what you think!

My Crafty Smartphone!

IMG_0447-2010-10-14-21-22.PNG

If you have a smartphone, why not use it for crafting!
All you need is a PDF reader, connection cord (optional) and smartphone.
First , find a PDF reader for your phone, for the iPhone I found iBooks. It is a free app and looks great with my PDFs on the virtual bookshelves.
Second, the PDFs have to be transferred over to your phone from your computer. Connect your phone to your computer with a cable you received with your phone (All phones are created differently.), for an iPhone, use iTunes click on a PDF and drag over the PDF files to your phone.
Or if you have internet capability email the PDF file to yourself. Make sure you have a great signal, for faster results!
Last, disconnect the phone from your computer and check your PDF reader on phone to see if your PDF files are there! If you give it a try let us know about it!
Happy Crafting!

I heart e-Patterns!

Let me count the ways! I love e-Patterns! These are just a few reasons why I heart e-Patterns.
taping-2010-10-12-21-26.jpgcutting-out-template-2010-10-12-21-26.jpg
Reason #1:
With a hard copy pattern making two different sized coats at the same time would have been tough. I would have bought two patterns (to save time) or traced the one pattern pieces (to save money).
This way I could make it again and again.
With the e-pattern, I cut the larger template out first, use it and then cut it down to the smaller size. I still have all of the sizes because they are on my computer!
IMG_0447-2010-10-12-21-26.PNG
Reason #2:
I can download them to my iPhone, at the fabric store I know exactly how much fabric I need to buy. E-patterns are easier to organize on your computer and I can insistently see what sewing projects I have to choose from.
My hard copy patterns are all in a box and I have to look through everything to find what I need. Usually I come across a pattern I have not seen for years because I forgot I even had it.

Reason #3
Once I had a costumer who bought almost every Sew Spoiled e-pattern available. Her hard drive on her computer died and she emailed me about what had happened. I looked up her invoices and sent all of the patterns directly to her again.
These are just  few reason why I like e-patterns. Why do you like e-Patterns? Please share with us why you buy e-Patterns.
Happy e-Pattern Sewing!

Dear My Kids Stylish Coat Pattern

Screenshot2010-10-10at9.12.23AM-2010-10-10-09-11.png
Well, I feel like I am a little behind with the Dear My Kids Peter Pan Collar Coat project because after I purchased the pattern this weekend, I found that last month there was a sew-along for this jacket at From the Igloo. At least now I can read about the whole process.
Day 1
Day 2
Day 3
Day 4
Coat-FAbric-2010-10-10-09-11.jpg
The corduroy will be for the outer shell and cotton will be for the lining. The blue is for my oldest (the penguin) and the pink is for my youngest (the princess). This coat looks perfect for the fall! The fair is in town, festivals are popping up everywhere and with all of the outside activities these coats will be wonderful in the cooler weather. This lazy Sunday afternoon sewing in my sewing room with the windows open to the fresh fall air sounds wonderful!
Happy Sewing!
