My kids love dressing up like mom, I know that won't always be the case. So I am enjoying it now! Sewing kids clothes is so much fun, especially since it takes half the time to make and usually a small amount of fabric. 

I made the shirred waist band from a coordinating print setting it apart from the top of the shirt. I hope you enjoy the tutorial and show off your creations at your Sew Spoiled projects group on Flickr.

Jo-Ann Fabric Game!

This game has to be played on the weekend, when there are a lot of customers shopping. Most Jo-Ann Fabric stores have a number ticket thingy, at the cutting counter. You have to have one in the store you are shopping in, to play this fabric game.
How To Play:
Step 1: Go into Jo-Ann's Fabric store and grab a number at the cutting counter. (10 Points)
Step 2: In the amount of time it takes your number to be pulled and called, pick out your fabric.(10 Points)
Step 3: Get your fabric cut and buy the extra thread or notions you need for the project. Be honest, if you need thread in that color buy it. (10 Points)
Extra Points: this is where your coupons will come in handy.
Your project is under $20, 10 Points!
Your project is under $10, 20 Points!
Your project is under $5, 50 Points!
You can wear your project on Monday (the Monday after your weekend fabric shopping trip), 100 Points!
Example:

30Pt (for step1-3)+20Pt (project was under $10)+100Pt (fished project)=150Pt

This game is even more fun with friends that sew! I play this game by myself just to see how quickly I can get inspired to make something beautiful! Sewing Spring Kid's Clothes

I have been sewing new spring clothes for both of my daughter's wardrobes. Here are a few new articles of clothing we have added this week. First, I made these simple Yoga Skirts. This pattern was featured on Sew Mama Sew's Blog and is available as a free pattern for kids and adults. I am definitely making myself one, once I find the right fabric. 

Here are my girls putting their feet into the pool. 

It has been warm here but not warm enough to swim.

Here is a cute pattern I found on Etsy, it is available on YCMT too. It is called the Boardwalk Ruffle Dress by Monkey's Bug. I like the look of the dress and it was simple to piece together, however in the pattern it has you finish the armholes and then the sides of the ruffle sleeve seperately, so once you sew the two together it is a little bulky. 

This is a t-shirt dress. The girls love to go into a fabric store with me because I let them pick out one yard and we make a t-shirt dress together. It is a fun way to get them excited about fabric. Usually they carry the fabric all the way home in the car. I wanted to share a tip I found while making a t-shirt tunic and I tried with this dress. I fused a strip of interfacing (.5" wide) around the edge of the t-shirt before sewing the fabric to it. Sewing the knit fabric of the t-shirt was a breeze because the knit did not shift or move. 

No yucky puckers in the dress seam!

Zip Zap Purse Tutorial

Materials:

Fabric A: Cut 2- 7”X 9”

Fabric B: Cut 2- 7”X 9”

Lightweight Interfacing: Cut 2- 7”X 9”

7” zipper

Bias Tape

Step 1: Cut out all of the pieces; Fabric A: 7”X 9”, Fabric B: 7”X 9”, 

and Lightweight Interfacing: 7”X 9”
(The greatest part about this purse is that you can make it any size you want!! 
Just cut out all of the fabric pieces the same size.)

Step 2: Fuse the Fabric A and interfacing together.
(You do not have to use interfacing especially if your fabric is a heavier weight like home decor fabrics.)

Step 3: Place the zipper foot onto the sewing machine.

Step 4: Place the Fabric A face up, zipper face down and the Fabric B face down. Sew across the top.

Step 5: Iron and topstitch Fabric A across the top of the bag.

 

Step 6: Now layer the bag again new Fabric A panel facing up, zipper down and Fabric B face down, 

pin and sew.

Step 7: Iron and topstitch Fabric A across the top of the bag.

Step 8: Pin the bag pieces together.

 

Step 9: Pin the binding in place and test it out to see if the length of the strap is correct. Bind the bag.

Step 10: Decorate it with buttons, rick rack or ribbons!

New Business Cards!

I spent this weekend making these business cards with my husband. We went through many different designs until finally, I remembered my chevron collection post and well the rest is history. These are Avery 8859, high gloss, double sided printable cards. The back has all of my information.

Now I can print out as many as I need.

New Tulip Blouse Sewing ePattern

PDF Sewing Pattern for the Tulip Blouse Pattern

If you have been looking for a new spring pattern,  this is for you. I first made this design last year when my husband took the kids out and left me at home to create whatever my heart desired. Within minutes I had sketched this blouse out and was sewing. It is a really quick project and I hope you enjoy it. 
I don't always have hours to spend sewing, so I adore short fast projects like this one that only take minutes to put together and looks like you have been to a boutique.
Here are some tips to help you with the Tulip Blouse.
* Brother machine shirring.
* Choose light to medium weight fabrics for this design.
*If you are not sure about the shape of your first blouse, baste stitch the shoulders and sides of the blouse panels and see if it fits.
