Part 6, Let's Finish our Braid Bags

Here is the last tutorial on how to make the Braid Bag. This is a really quick and easy bag to  create as a gift. It takes 1 yard to make, although I suggest to use contrasting fabrics for the outer shell and lining. You can find the Braid Bag ePattern online at Sew Spoiled Etsy Shop. Once you do make a Braid Bag please add it to our Braid Bag Flickr group
We have only had one sew along participant finish and post her bag, Marisa Lopes. Thank you for turning in your pictures to the Flickr group for everyone to see your progress Marisa! I love your bag!
I hope to have a few more finish their bags this week.
Best Wishes!

Magnet Clasp Tutorial

Recently someone asked, "How do you install your magnet clasps?" I hadn't really thought about it, I just do it. It is one of those skills in bag making that you need all of the time. Some patterns don't even tell you how to install a magnet clasp just, "follow manufacture's directions". So here is the Sew Spoiled way. I am not sure if this is the best way, but it has worked for me (and I have made well over 100 bags.) I like to fold the 2"X1" piece of fleece in half to make a 1"X1" square. This is to make sure that the metal plate doesn't go through your beautiful fabric.

Machine Quilting review and Giveaway!

The Complete Guide to Machine Quilting is an inspiring book filled with ways to use your home sewing machine instead of a long arm machine or hand stitching an entire quilt. I personally don't own a longarm quilting machine and loath to hand stitch for long lengths of time. This seem like the perfect book for me. There are project ideas as well as quilting templates. I love how versatile this book is, perfect for a first time quilter or experienced seamstress. If you don't know how a quilt is constructed it shows you.
If you know how to construct a quilt but you want to add texture or dimensions to your projects, then it has templates for you. It even shows you how to change the templates a little to make a new designs!
Now for the best part, St. Martin's Griffin Press is giving away one copy of this book, Machine Quilting by Joanie Zeier Poole to one of our Sew Spoiled readers!

Maxi Skirt

I whipped this maxi skirt up in about the time it took the kids to watch Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. The top is my A-line skirt pattern with the bottom not flaring out. I did make it with a lining, partly because I think it is so cool to be able to and because I used the white Amy Butler's, Forget Me Not in sugar, from her Cameo collection
Once I finished  the skirt, I realized I needed more room to move freely. I could take small steps but I am a music teacher during the day, I have to move! So I took out the side seam of the main fabric and the lining. Then I pinned and stitched the two together.
I love my new skirt. It is so much fun to wear fabric that I love!
