Straw Hat Embroidery Tutorial

Every woman needs a floppy straw hat in the summertime. You can find straw hats everywhere and you can embroider them. Because the fibers are woven you can easily embroider the hat. Here is how you can embroider your own.

Step 1: Hoop the tear away interfacing.
Step 2: Sandwich the hat between the interfacing and  soluble topper.
Step 3: Baste stitch a rectangle attaching all three layers. If you do not baste stitch you should pin all three layers. (Pinning might be very difficult.)
Step 4: Embroider on top the initials for monogramming. I used here one 3" letter in the center and 2" letters one either side.
Enjoy your Floppy Straw Hat.
Cheers!

So if you do a baste stitch do you just pick out the stitches after you are all done embroidering and it does not leave stitch marks? It is so cute!

Hi Leah,
I also have a PE770. I like this machine, but there is so much that I don't know and the manual does not help. Is there an automatic basting stitch with this machine? I tried the icon on the display page and nothing happens, and it is rather awkward trying to pin some items rather than basting them. Can you help?

I use Embrilliance, http://embrilliance.com, and it has a feature to baste stitch whatever design you create. It is well worth the money and not nearly a costly as other programs out there. Check it out!
nice job! I love it! thanks for sharing!

Sweet Coin Purse Tutorial for Teacher Gifts

This time of year is so special to me because I get to show my gratitude for all of the hard work that goes into teaching my daughters. I love to make handmade gifts and this year is no exception. Since money does not grow on trees around here, I looked at my stash (I keep my scraps in hat boxes ) and tried to see what I had a lot of; small zippers, trims, Peltex strips ( from making iPad cases ), fabric scraps and some hardware for key fobs. So I set to work.  Materials: Plastic multipurpose 5" Zipper  Fabric Scraps Lightweight interfacing 808 Pellon Trims (We clipped  key fobs  with 1.5" swivel hooks onto our coin purses . There are tons of tutorials on making key fobs .) Step 1: Print out the Coin Purse Template  PDF.  Cut 2 main fabric, cut 2 lining and 2 interfacing using the template.  Optional: Cut a 2"X2" square of your choice main fabric or lining. This strip of fabric is used to clip a key fob to your coin purse later. We used a 1.5
