Office Chair Recover Project

Have you ever had a project that you keep putting off?? Well, this chair has been on my to do list forever. The black original fabric was torn and worn out. I had a little help taking off the handles and hardware but once the cushions were off I was on a roll. First, I recovered the bottom cushion. We pulled the fabric over the cushion and stapled it down with a staple gun. I had my husband help me because you need one person to hold the fabric and the other to staple.
The top cushion is covered like a slip cover. I draped the fabric over the cushion and drew the cushion shapes onto the back of the fabric with a fabric marker. Then I cut out the shapes and pinned the slip cover, right sides together, along the cushion's old seam lines. Finally, I sewed the slip cover using the pins as a guide for the seam allowance. I left a hole open along the bottom, back of the slip cover so I could fit it over the cushion. After fitting it over the cushion, I hand sewed the rest of the slip cover closed. I added 4 fabric covered buttons to pull the fabric closer to the cushion.Over all this was an easy project and I wish I had braved it along time ago. What projects are you putting off?? I completed a project for my daughter that I had put off for too long -- floor pillows for her room.
She loves the soft fleece fabric and they coordinate with her "look" for her room.

this is great, just great. you make it sound so simple. i want to do my office chair now. not because it is worn, but it's a little ugly in my new pretty office. Thanks for the mimi tutorial!

Sweet Coin Purse Tutorial for Teacher Gifts

This time of year is so special to me because I get to show my gratitude for all of the hard work that goes into teaching my daughters. I love to make handmade gifts and this year is no exception. Since money does not grow on trees around here, I looked at my stash (I keep my scraps in hat boxes ) and tried to see what I had a lot of; small zippers, trims, Peltex strips ( from making iPad cases ), fabric scraps and some hardware for key fobs. So I set to work.  Materials: Plastic multipurpose 5" Zipper  Fabric Scraps Lightweight interfacing 808 Pellon Trims (We clipped  key fobs  with 1.5" swivel hooks onto our coin purses . There are tons of tutorials on making key fobs .) Step 1: Print out the Coin Purse Template  PDF.  Cut 2 main fabric, cut 2 lining and 2 interfacing using the template.  Optional: Cut a 2"X2" square of your choice main fabric or lining. This strip of fabric is used to clip a key fob to your coin purse later....
