Sweet and Simple Patchwork

This is my new little project. I am not one to quilt but I have been wanting to try it for a long time. I guess this is the best way to get me feet wet. A quilt seems like a long term relationship, I am not sure if I am ready to start yet. I did enjoy picking out the pieces and finding scrappy bits I had forgotten, hidden away in my stash. However, my sewing room looked like a tornado had come through and I had to ask the kids not to come in because I was afraid I would loose them in all the fabric I had pulled out. If you have caught the quilting bug but need a small project to devour, I have found the perfect book for you.  It is called Sweet and Simple Patchwork Gifts  by Hisako Arai and Yoko Sanjo. Inside are 25 cute, little patchwork projects. I think I'm going to make  #13, the Log Cabin pin cushion first. :) These projects are an easy way to use your scraps and make a gorgeous gift for someone special in your life. Happy Sewing!

Craft Wars!!!

With $10,000 on the line, three amazing crafters must create a play house out of school supplies! I love this show, it makes me wonder, what would I create in the amount of time with the challenges they are given. The competition is hosted by author and avid crafter, Tori Spelling.  Tori's little ones are in this first episode, they are adorable!  Michaels is sponsoring the show and on the back wall of the studio is  every crafting tool you could dream of. Fabric, buttons, ModPod, glitter, paint, you name it they have it!!! The Judges are Stephen Brown ( founder Glitterville Studios ), Erica Domesek ( author of P.S.- I Made This ) and Jo Pearson ( Michaels Creative expert for more than 25 years ). All three of judges have the difficult job of choosing the Craft War Winner.  If you missed the premier don't miss any more set your DVR because you won't want to miss Craft Wars !

How to Wash Your Handmade Creations!

✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄ ✄✄✄✄ ✄✄✄✄ You will need;  Woolite , a white cleaning cloth and water. ✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄ ✄✄✄✄ ✄✄✄✄ Fill the sink up with water and add  Woolite as directed. ✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄ ✄✄✄✄ ✄✄✄✄ Dip the cloth into the water/ Woolite solution, ring out the cloth and spot clean or in this case clean the whole bag. ✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄ ✄✄✄✄ ✄✄✄✄ Don't forget the lining. ✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄ ✄✄✄✄ ✄✄✄✄ Now let your bag air dry.  If you are impatient, like me, place a towel inside your bag and set your dryer to delicates.  ✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄ ✄✄✄✄ ✄✄✄✄ Iron the fabric bag back into shape.  I made this bag in September of 2008 , almost four years ago. It looks great and now I can use it for another four years or more. You can also protect your handmade items by using Scotchgard on your fabric bags and accessories.

Sew Spoiled Wave Shoulder Bag

This is the Wave shoulder bag. I am still working on it. I love the outside but I am currently working on the lining and pockets. My hopes are to finish it soon and start a Wave Bag series that includes a handbag, wristlet and more.  Speaking of pockets, what do you like/ dislike? For example, I love pockets the more the better but I don't like it when they droop open at the top and catch on everything you put inside. The interior of a bag is just as important as the exterior. When I make a bag, I usually think about it's uses, that leads me to pockets and design. This bag would be great for carrying so many things like an iPad (or tablet device), business papers, planner or kid coloring books and crayons.  Let me know what your thoughts are.

Online Classes to Take!

I would love to take a few of the online classes! They look fun and easy and you can take it in the comfort of your own home. Nicoles Classes These are online classes are about Photography, Adobe Illustrator, Indesign and Photoshop. I use all of these programs daily. It would be nice to get to know more about them, so I could be even more effective. I found a Photoshop tutorial on Dodging at Nicole's and I am hooked.  Before                  After Now I can use it easily for anything. Before                  After Before                  After So what do you think? Have you taken any online classes? Please advise:)

Getting Organized!

I have been carrying around a slouchy medium size shoulder bag. I carry everything in it from kid toys to makeup but there are no pockets. Everything is in a big messy pile at the bottom, that I have to sort through before reaching what I need. So I made a... I loved Sweetbriar Studio's pattern ! It is super easy! I love the simplicity of the design and it is the perfect fit for any medium size bag. I only made a few changes. Zippered pockets come in handy for thing you don't want people to see when opening your bag. I wanted to be able to pick up the organizer and transfer it to another purse easily. If you look into my closet I have all of the Sew Spoiled prototypes and bags that I have made over the years. Really I should get rid of some of them.   I have never topstitched the edges of a bag before but I like the look and it made the organizer stand up. I am going to make another Ladybug Shoulder Bag and this is perfect for that medium size bag.
