Sew Spoiled

I tried shirring the middle of the Wiksten Tank with elastic thread!  Here's what I did.... 1.) Cut the pattern out.  2.) Attached one side of the tank, side seam. 3.) Draw 3 straight lines across, starting where you are smallest around the middle . 4.) Shirred the middle and knot the elastic threads. 5.) Complete the top as directed in the instructions.  It might look even better with a wide leather belt. At first I started to make the dress, but every time I end up cutting it, and making the tank top. The dress cut looks like a nightgown to me. Maybe it is my choice of fabrics.  What are your thoughts on this pattern? Did you like it? Any one try something different? Best wishes and tons of stitches!

Earlier this summer my father in law asked if I could make a hunter's bag. He did not want it in leather and it needed a lot of pockets for different items he wanted to carry inside.  His birthday was in July and we had a huge southern style pig pickin with all of the trimmings.  This is the real deal, the pig on the cooker. Slowly cooked all day. The BBQ was so good! The hunter's bag had an adjustable strap, 7 pockets (1 zipper) and a magnet clasp. I think it might be harder to make a man's bag than a woman's bag. I also made it wide enough to stand on it's own. It is fun to just create something without a pattern or template, just shapes. Each piece made to fit the next. I wish I had taken more pictures but I created it so quickly, I forgot I had my camera. Sorry! I think I enjoy sewing the most when it is for someone else. I love to give handmade gifts because I feel like it is something special no one else can give.  Happy Sewing!

I am so excited to review Gertie's New Book ! I love her blog and I have followed her for years. During which she has taken us step by step through  Vogue's New Book for Better Sewing . Sewing fourteen wardrobe pieces from the 1950's sewing book.  Here are a few photos from just opening the book. The book is divided into two parts; skills and wardrobe. One of the skills I would like to know more about is boning and that is in the book! White paper templates, not tissue! These will make it easier to trace. Each size has a different  type of line to help with cutting or tracing. One of my favorite wardrobe pieces is the A-line skirt. Just noticed that after each project she gives suggestions on how to change the pattern a little, to get a new look. Love That! I think I am going to pick out a wardrobe piece and see what happens.  Stay tuned for more!

I am so excited to announce that the Sew Spoiled Wave Shoulder Bag ePattern is available!! I started working on this design last year. But the lining was less that perfect. After creating 5 different lining designs, I found the perfect one.  The reason for it's versatility is the Zipper Pocket Divider.  The Zipper Pocket Divider has a zipper pocket, measuring 14.25"W X 10.5"H. The divider can carry up to a 13" Macbook Air. Or any size tablet, including the iPad.  Six slip pockets measuring 4.75" WX 7.75" H are located all around the divider. The divider also has 3 Velcro® tabs so you can organize small things with the divider attached or detach it to store larger items inside the Wave Shoulder Bag. This epattern is 20 pages long, with over 45 pictures and 3 full size templates for the body of the bag. Do zippers make you nervous? When you see a zipper is involved in a project, do you put it back on the shelf? There is no need to feel intimidated any more. After you see how easy it is you will want to put invisible zippers in all of you garments. Let's get started!  Step 1: Iron the teeth away from the zipper tape. There is a grove beside the teeth and that is where you want your stitched to go in the "stitch ditch". That is why we are ironing it so the ditch is larger. ✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄ ✄✄✄✄ ✄✄  ✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄ ✄✄✄✄ ✄✄  Step 2: Pin the invisible zipper to the right side of the fabric. The zipper teeth are facing away from the opening. Start at the top of the project and pin down. ✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄ ✄✄✄✄ ✄✄  ✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄✄ ✄✄✄✄ ✄✄  Step 3: Place your invisible zipper presser foot onto the shank of your machine. This little foot makes sewing invisible zippers super easy. It has special cuts below to guide the teeth away from the tape so you can stitch close to the teeth.

 After you find an A-line skirt pattern , I am using  One Yard Wonders 101  template . Make a muslin of your skirt! It only takes a few minutes to make a muslin version. Just baste stitch the side seams and make adjustments for your hips. Once your template is right you can make all the skirts your heart desires, so it is important to get the perfect fit first. Now we are ready to cut the "good" fabric and sew! ---------------------------------- ---------------------------------- ---------------------------------- ---------------------------------- Flip the skirt right side out and put it on!! You are done!! It is super easy and your new skirt will look store made.  Plus there is no hand stitching the lining to the main fabric.
