Sew Over It; Heather Dress #2

See I told you, after sewing Heather Dress #1 , here is Heather Dress #2. This time I used a sweater knit fabric. It is so warm, comfortable and soft. Great for the wintery weather we are having in the south this year. Also, the pockets seem to perform better in this fabric choice. Here is a close up of the pocket! I again had a little extra fabric. So I made a knit pencil skirt. I just used a pencil skirt that I had in my closet as a pattern. Yay, I love getting a little extra fabric for one more design. This stretches my fabric wardrobe budget. Piecing everything together can be fun and give you the boost you need to start sewing! I love how easily this dress comes together. It looks professional but at the same time feels great. I can teach music and move around and look great all at the same time. Save Save

Monogramming Inspiration

My sister just moved into her beautiful dream home and asked for me to monogram some towels for her. These are the finished product. I am so glad that everything turned out so well. I love the ladder made from repurposed wood and the grey floors. It is fun to help someone get the finished result that they were looking for. Sure, the towels would have looked great without the monogram but the design puts it over the top. I found the design letter here, at Great Notions Design . Sometimes choosing a letter monogram can be daunting with all of the choices you have. As you probably already noticed I did not hoop the towel, only the interfacing. I used a baste stitch first to hold the interfacing, towel and water soluble topper together. I know most people do not do it this way but I really believe it is the best way to embroider. Best wishes and tons of Stitches!

My Little Pony Cape Tutorial

If you have little girls you know about My Little Ponies. They are much cooler now, than when I collected them. They also sell My Little Ponies in a multitude of sizes. We recently purchased a Pinkie Pie and Flutter Shy from the Build a Bear shop at the mall. These are larger ponies and of course after buying the pony you have to dress them up. However, my girls are a little different. Instead of  dressing them at the store, we get ideas and make stuff at home. The tutorial I am going to share today is the My Little Pony Cape, for the large ponies at Build a Bear. This pattern is also reversible so you can make one with two totally different sides and flip flop it for different looking capes. Print the PDF Template Here . Materials: 2- Fat Quarters measuring 18" X 22" 1/4" wide elastic

Sew Spoiled Twist Apron

I created the Twist Apron when my sister, who is a bakery diva, had a birthday. I wanted to give her a custom apron that was as unique as her delightful pastry treats.  What makes this pattern different? It is how you wear the Twist Apron. Here is a short video showing you how to put it on. Everyday Cardigan in Turquoise

Once I find a pattern I like, it is common for me to make many items from the same design. The first time is usually a test run and I find out new techniques. The second try is almost always better! I can make it faster and can zip through the process. This knitting pattern is called the Everyday Cardigan  Lisa Clarke. I adore the button band however this time my button band wants to turn in. It might be because of the type of yarn I used, Red Heart Super Saver Yarn. It is very economical only costing $5 per skein . I also only needed 3 skeins. This is very cost-effective, however, my first Everyday Cardigan which was made out of wool did a better job laying flat after blocking. Red Heart Super Saver Yarn is an all-purpose medium worsted weight yarn that is ideal for afghans, sweaters, and accessories. It is machine wash warm, tumble dry low, do not use bleach, do not iron, dry cleanable. It is 100% acrylic, Dye-Lot. #0512 Turquie.

How to Wash Your Down Coat

One of the warmest coats you will ever own is a down coat. The goose down feathers are warm and so soft. I found this coat several years ago at the Eddie Bauer outlet for $35. I have worn it for the past 5 or 6 years and I have never washed it. If you think about that, that is seriously gross! With colds, kids and dirt it is disgusting and needs a good bath. Now that I know how easy it is to wash, I will probably wash it more often. This is the label, just to show you it is a goose down jacket Here is the instructions in the coat. You will notice that it first suggests to dry clean it. If you look further you will see the Machine wash instructions... Use warm water  Delicate cycle  Separately in a large washer Use mild detergent (Down Cleaner is the best) Rinse twice  This is what my washing machine looked like when I programmed all of the settings in. I even saved the custom program incase we need it again. You could use this for sleeping b...
