My Little Pony Cape Tutorial

If you have little girls you know about My Little Ponies. They are much cooler now, than when I collected them. They also sell My Little Ponies in a multitude of sizes. We recently purchased a Pinkie Pie and Flutter Shy from the Build a Bear shop at the mall. These are larger ponies and of course after buying the pony you have to dress them up. However, my girls are a little different. Instead of  dressing them at the store, we get ideas and make stuff at home. The tutorial I am going to share today is the My Little Pony Cape, for the large ponies at Build a Bear. This pattern is also reversible so you can make one with two totally different sides and flip flop it for different looking capes. Print the PDF Template Here . Materials: 2- Fat Quarters measuring 18" X 22" 1/4" wide elastic

Devon Baer Inspired Tunic

Have you ever seen something and wish you had the sewing pattern for? This happens to me a lot, especially looking at Pinterest and other websites. As I was looking around I saw this.... Honestly, I did not know where the ruffle collar shirt came from or who had designed the tunic. It was a picture I had found on Pinterest that did not have a link, I researched the image and found a boutique that sold the ruffle tunic called Devon Baer . These are beautiful tunics in bright gorgeous colors, ready for a day at the beach or on a boat. I loved looking at Devon Haire's designs and her online Boutique. It looks like she started at Etsy and expanded to her own shop. Next, I started to look for a similar sewing patterns. I wanted to make my own ruffle collar shirt. Of course the pattern was not available. So what did I do next? I looked through all of my sewing books and found  Built by Wendy Dress  book. This book has  3 style of dresses; the sheath dress, shift dress...

Kelly Green, Antler Sweater

I finished my Antler Sweater from Tin Cats knits and I love the way it looks. These are just some buttons I had. They are acting as place holders until my beautiful buttons arrive! I am trying to be patient. The only change I made this time was with the sleeves. I made them more form fitting than on my first purple sweater. It was purely by accident, I knitted 16 down before realizing I was suppose to be increasing. I wrote the arm pattern down and just did the exact same thing on sleeve two. I also learn how to make the body of your sweater look like one solid piece of fabric. In the purple sweater, I have these nubby knots where I stopped and started the new skeins.   While I was knitting the green sweater, I realized that if I would start and stop the new skeins on the sides, no one would ever see the tails of the yarn. The finial result is a sweater body that looks like one solid piece of fabric.   These are the small details that make your final p...

How to Monogram a Casserole Carrier

These casserole carriers are so cute but how do you embroider the handle, if you only have single needle machine and the handle on the carrier doesn't open up? Most of these carriers have a single handle that is stitched to the zipper seam. I am going to show you how easy it is to embroider the handle even if you have a single needle machine.  You can find carriers like this one at Carolina Pottery, Ross, Tuesday Mornings or Home Goods. To find them online go to Sew For Less , All About Blanks  (These carriers are easier to embroider on b/c the handles detach.) and the Coral Coast  (She sells the blanks too). I found this one on sell because the white was marked up. (Which a mixture of peroxide and dawn took care of.) Originally marked $12.99, it was a red ticket item so we got it for 1/2 off, $6.50. Step 1: Open up the zipper seam that has one side of the handle inclosed in, it is topstitched and there is binding holding all of the layers of fabric together so ...

Washi Expansion Pack

So is the expansion pack worth the extra $14?  Yes! I made this grey dress in about 3 hours. The expansion pack has 3 new looks for your Washi Dresses; the Peter Pan collar, long sleeves and new 2 different tie styles. This is one of my favorite dress patterns to make. It is super easy, feels comfortable to wear and has a variety of different looks in one pattern. When I say it is super easy, I mean there are just a few pattern pieces to sew together and the instructions are easy to follow. Also if you are a little scared of the shirring part, in the expansion pack, Rae will show you how to make a casing for elastic along the back of the dress. Once you have cut out the pieces it should take you about 3 hours to sew. This dress is so comfortable to wear. I am a K-5 music teacher and typically I do not wear dresses or even skirts because in an eight hour school day; I dance, play instruments and have to sit on the floor from time to time. In this dress I can look profe...

Fabric Button Video Tutorial

Here is another fun Sew Spoiled tutorial on how to make your own fabric covered buttons. Then you can glue them on magnets. Magnetic fabric covered buttons make fantastic gifts for teachers. Most teachers have magnetic boards. I use some I have created at home on our refrigerator to hang beautiful art work from my two little ones.  Enjoy!
