Sew Over It; Heather Dress #2

See I told you, after sewing Heather Dress #1 , here is Heather Dress #2. This time I used a sweater knit fabric. It is so warm, comfortable and soft. Great for the wintery weather we are having in the south this year. Also, the pockets seem to perform better in this fabric choice. Here is a close up of the pocket! I again had a little extra fabric. So I made a knit pencil skirt. I just used a pencil skirt that I had in my closet as a pattern. Yay, I love getting a little extra fabric for one more design. This stretches my fabric wardrobe budget. Piecing everything together can be fun and give you the boost you need to start sewing! I love how easily this dress comes together. It looks professional but at the same time feels great. I can teach music and move around and look great all at the same time. Save Save

Monogramming Inspiration

My sister just moved into her beautiful dream home and asked for me to monogram some towels for her. These are the finished product. I am so glad that everything turned out so well. I love the ladder made from repurposed wood and the grey floors. It is fun to help someone get the finished result that they were looking for. Sure, the towels would have looked great without the monogram but the design puts it over the top. I found the design letter here, at Great Notions Design . Sometimes choosing a letter monogram can be daunting with all of the choices you have. As you probably already noticed I did not hoop the towel, only the interfacing. I used a baste stitch first to hold the interfacing, towel and water soluble topper together. I know most people do not do it this way but I really believe it is the best way to embroider. Best wishes and tons of Stitches!

Devon Baer Inspired Tunic

Have you ever seen something and wish you had the sewing pattern for? This happens to me a lot, especially looking at Pinterest and other websites. As I was looking around I saw this.... Honestly, I did not know where the ruffle collar shirt came from or who had designed the tunic. It was a picture I had found on Pinterest that did not have a link, I researched the image and found a boutique that sold the ruffle tunic called Devon Baer . These are beautiful tunics in bright gorgeous colors, ready for a day at the beach or on a boat. I loved looking at Devon Haire's designs and her online Boutique. It looks like she started at Etsy and expanded to her own shop. Next, I started to look for a similar sewing patterns. I wanted to make my own ruffle collar shirt. Of course the pattern was not available. So what did I do next? I looked through all of my sewing books and found  Built by Wendy Dress  book. This book has  3 style of dresses; the sheath dress, shift dress...

Sew Cool Machine for Kids

Miss K has been sewing since she was born. She would sleep as I held her in my arms sewing, so she is use to the humming of the sewing machine. Here is a picture of her decked out in Sew Spoiled Bags. Now she creates her own bags and clothes for her American Girl dolls. We will show off more of her talents later this year. She is so much better than I am. She received the Sew Cool machine for Christmas and we have been sewing up a ton of pillows and felt cuteness. Here is a short video with the machine at work. It has 3 needles at the top and 3 needles coming out from the bottom, so it is really acting as a felting machine. There is a needle guard so fingers do not get in the way. The kits make for easy sewing. You don't even have to cut the projects out with scissors when you buy a Sew Cool Kit. The machine comes with fabric and pattern templates and they are a little more intense to figure out and put together. We did some research and you can use any felt fabric not j...

Fleece Jacket Makeover

This is a cute picture, it looks almost too perfect right? You guessed it, this jacket was too large and an eye sore in my closet. I do not remember how I received it but it has been hanging in my closet for years!!! I almost donated it this year and then I changed my mind and gave it a makeover. Now I love to wear it and it is a wonderful staple in my wardrobe. This is the original fleece jacket. The length in the sleeves and body of the coat were fine, so I left those alone. However, it needed adjusting under the arms and slim down the torso part of the coat. I turned the coat inside out and took a hoodie that fits and laid it over the fleece. Then I pinned the underarm and sides leaving alone the cuff and bottom hem. I had to take in the coat 4" from the underarm original seam to the new underarm seam. There are pockets on either side so I had to keep my stitches away from them. After sewing the underarm and side seam with my sewing machine, I decided to serge it to giv...

Handmade Wardrobe Tips

If you are wondering how to make your own wardrobe, you need to start by selecting sewing patterns that are staples already in your current ready wear wardrobe. Think about what you wear most. For me it is skirts, knit dresses, pants/jeans and t-shirts. I am a mom, teacher and casual dresser. I wear dresses occasionally in the spring and summer. After seeing what the majority of my wardrobe looked like, I was able to find sewing patterns in the style of garments that I loved to wear. Making your own wardrobe allows you to create your own look. You can also adapt patterns for your size and build. I am 5'1" so I am classified as a petite. In the department stores if I buy petite clothes the pants are actually too short but in the regular section, all of the pants are too long. Being able to adapt the sewing patterns I buy to fit me makes me super happy!!!  1.) What are the clothes I wear the most? (Current Staples) 2.) What look do I want to have? (Classic, Casual, Pre...

Arizona Caravan Tote and Pouch, Round Three Challenge

This is Round #3 of the Super Online Sewing Match. It has been wonderful receiving patterns, fabric and online resources to create our sewing projects with. I feel so lucky to be a contestant. Each week receiving a new challenge with new resources to make it with. This week's challenge was the Caravan Tote and Pouch Pattern by Anna Graham from Noodlehead. Anna has a new book and line of fabric out and I can't wait to get my hands on both!  The Caravan Tote and Pouch pattern by Noodlehead is a knitters dream. It has pockets everywhere for needles, yarn, stitch counters and placement markers.  I am a beginner , when it comes to the world of knitting, but I love and respect it. I feel that it has made me a better seamstress because knitting is making your own fabric!  When I received the challenge, I began to wonder what fabrics to use. It was hard to narrow it down. I went to Fat Quarter Shop , who sponsored this week's round, and instantly fell in love with ...
