Devon Baer Inspired Tunic

Have you ever seen something and wish you had the sewing pattern for? This happens to me a lot, especially looking at Pinterest and other websites. As I was looking around I saw this.... Honestly, I did not know where the ruffle collar shirt came from or who had designed the tunic. It was a picture I had found on Pinterest that did not have a link, I researched the image and found a boutique that sold the ruffle tunic called Devon Baer . These are beautiful tunics in bright gorgeous colors, ready for a day at the beach or on a boat. I loved looking at Devon Haire's designs and her online Boutique. It looks like she started at Etsy and expanded to her own shop. Next, I started to look for a similar sewing patterns. I wanted to make my own ruffle collar shirt. Of course the pattern was not available. So what did I do next? I looked through all of my sewing books and found  Built by Wendy Dress  book. This book has  3 style of dresses; the sheath dress, shift dress...

Wardrobe Staple: Corduroy Skirt

This year I am attempting to create classic staples that will expand my wardrobe. I want to design and make garments I will wear over and over again. I believe I have created my first wardrobe staple, this camel color corduroy skirt from the McCall's 6361 . Some of its features include pockets, zipper fly and belt loops. Pockets are a must since I have to carry my phone on me at all times. The zipper fly makes the great fit possible. Belt Loops are easy to add. Plus wearing a belt can help change your look by adding a belt. Fabric: Camel Corduroy Pattern: McCall's 6361 The details in this skirt makes it one of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe. Plus the length is perfect for work or play. I can wear boots or ballet flats. Skirts are versatile and can move through more than one season with simple accessories like sandals or tights. I love this skirt, can't wait to work on another wardrobe staple.

Handmade Wardrobe Tips

If you are wondering how to make your own wardrobe, you need to start by selecting sewing patterns that are staples already in your current ready wear wardrobe. Think about what you wear most. For me it is skirts, knit dresses, pants/jeans and t-shirts. I am a mom, teacher and casual dresser. I wear dresses occasionally in the spring and summer. After seeing what the majority of my wardrobe looked like, I was able to find sewing patterns in the style of garments that I loved to wear. Making your own wardrobe allows you to create your own look. You can also adapt patterns for your size and build. I am 5'1" so I am classified as a petite. In the department stores if I buy petite clothes the pants are actually too short but in the regular section, all of the pants are too long. Being able to adapt the sewing patterns I buy to fit me makes me super happy!!!  1.) What are the clothes I wear the most? (Current Staples) 2.) What look do I want to have? (Classic, Casual, Pre...
