Here are some places and tips to making your summer budget last longer. Go to the $1.00 theatre. Actually our dollar theatre is $4 for adults now but that is still cheaper than going to the bigger theatre. Find a pool.  Walk around. In the summer it is hot so the girls and I love to walk around the mall. We window shop and get exercise.  A lot of places run $1 kid cones. McDonalds have $1.00 vanilla cones. Go Bowling. Some bowling allies run specials all summer long. You can even get summer passes.  http://www.kidsbowlfree.com  Get 2 free passes per week! Check out your Libraries! Our library runs a reading program.  Go to a museum! Many museums have camps and summer programs.

Cooking with your kids can be very rewarding. However you have to be ok with messes and use a large amount of patience. Here are a few tips to making the experience fun for everyone... Start with an easy recipe. Something that uses only a few ingredients.  Make sure to wash your little ones hands. We also leave a chair at the sink so they can wash in the middle of making a recipe together. It is ok to get messy! That is part of the fun. If you want to have less mess place clear wrap over the counters and tie aprons on. Taste testing is a must. But not raw meat or egg, yuck!  Take the time to talk while the baking or cooking is going on. What is on their minds?   Let them do as much as possible. When I was nine I was making dinner. Show them how to cut and protect themselves using the oven. If we never show them, they will never learn. Let them clean up and put things away as you go. Make the place you eat special. Use the good dishes, eat in a fort you ...

This weeks theme will be how to keep your kids active over the summer. Now that school is over the kids are home and ready to start summer break. This week is filled with fun activities that won't break the bank.  I like to start the summer by making a list of things the kids would like to do and I would like to do. This becomes our summer bucket list. Some of the things on that list this year are to go to the beach, make a trip to see the Grandparents, see the movies Monsters University and Despicable Me 2, go to the Marbles Museum, Vacation Bible School and tennis & dance lessons. These are big things spread out throughout the summer. We have made an "I'm bore." Jar. A lot of times kids start to expect parents to entertain them when they get bore. Creating an I'm bored Jar gives them something to do so that they can entertain themselves. Create it with them, kids are smart and might add suggestions that they like to do.
