Craziness!!

This weekend I had planned a perfect sewing project for myself. I wanted to make this dress...
I bought enough chevron fabric for two dresses, it arrived Friday!! I was well on my way to having a great sewing weekend. I felt so smart for ordering everything ahead of time and my plan was coming together.
Saturday morning ready to start my project, I put all 6 yards of chevron into my wash machine and this happened...
Brown oil stuff was all over my fabric!! Everywhere! I tried everything to get out the oil...
But there were brown dots all over it. :(
We had to go shopping, with 4 in our family, it is a necessity. My husband and I looked at 3 different Lowe's. We found a Samsung washer we liked, but it was $700! We asked if they would price match, because we found it online cheaper at Best Buy. Lowe's said they couldn't match the online price, so we went to Best Buy. At Best Buy the most amazing thing happen. The sales clerk told us about an LG washer and dryer ON SALE!! WooHoo! They are even Smart machines and if they have a problem the smart app tells me what needs to be worked on. I love the glass doors and it plays a song when it finishes. Being a music teacher, I love that!

They are due to arrive Wednesday! I can't wait! You would think I was getting a new sewing machine but next to a sewing machine these two are the most important appliances in the house. Fingers crossed, I won't have to buy any more appliances for a while.

Appliances, can't live without them but such an experience sure does cause disruption, to the sewing and to the wallet! Hope the new set is everything you need. Have you tried soaking the fabric in a solution of dawn dish washing liquid? I have had some luck with that in the past.

And a tune for the music teacher. My Grandmother was a piano teacher and a classically trained concert pianist. She would have been thrilled to have a washer with a tune too!!!

Sweet Coin Purse Tutorial for Teacher Gifts

This time of year is so special to me because I get to show my gratitude for all of the hard work that goes into teaching my daughters. I love to make handmade gifts and this year is no exception. Since money does not grow on trees around here, I looked at my stash (I keep my scraps in hat boxes ) and tried to see what I had a lot of; small zippers, trims, Peltex strips ( from making iPad cases ), fabric scraps and some hardware for key fobs. So I set to work.  Materials: Plastic multipurpose 5" Zipper  Fabric Scraps Lightweight interfacing 808 Pellon Trims (We clipped  key fobs  with 1.5" swivel hooks onto our coin purses . There are tons of tutorials on making key fobs .) Step 1: Print out the Coin Purse Template  PDF.  Cut 2 main fabric, cut 2 lining and 2 interfacing using the template.  Optional: Cut a 2"X2" square of your choice main fabric or lining. This strip of fabric is used to clip a key fob to your coin purse later. We used a 1.5
